In 1945, based on the Matchless G3 / L military motorcycle from the Second World War, the AJS Model 16M motorcycle with an engine of 350 cm3 was created. A well-proven wartime 350-cc engine remained in production until the 60s. The simple and practical Model 16 motorcycle required a minimum of maintenance and was very economical.
In 1953, the Model 16M was upgraded with a two-seat saddle. In 1956, the Burman box was replaced with a new four-speed box from AMC.
In 1957, further improvements included replacing the old crankshaft and installing the new Lucas alternator. Initially, the Model 16 motorcycle had a stiffer rear suspension. After installing a hydraulic shock absorber in 1949, an “S” index was added in the name - Model 16MS. In 1963, the engine was redesigned and a Norton oil pump was installed. The motorcycle was named AJS Model 16C. In the end, for the American market came up with a new name Scepter Sports. We removed new badges, replaced the cast-iron flywheel with a steel one, slightly increased the compression ratio to 9: 1.
