Buell Motorcycle Company is an American motorcycle manufacturer formerly based in East Troy, Wisconsin. Founded in 1983 by former Harley-Davidson engineer Eric Buell, in whose honor she was named. In 1993, Harley-Davidson already owned a 49% stake in the Buell Motorcycle Company, and in 2003 the Buell Motorcycle Company finally became a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson. In 2006, Buell announced the sale of the 100,000th motorcycle.
On October 15, 2009, Harley-Davidson announced that they were phasing out the Buell motorcycle assembly line and discontinuing all products under this logo, motivating this step to focus on the main Harley-Davidson brand products. The last motorcycle under the Buell brand left the assembly line on October 30 of that year, it turned out to be the Lightning SCG model, which became the 136'923rd motorcycle released by Buell. This last motorcycle was honored to be an exhibit in the collection of the Barber Motorsports Museum in Alabama.
In November 2009, Buell and Harley-Davidson announced the launch of Erik Buell Racingruen, an independent company led by Eric Buell. The EBR introduced for the first time the 1125R motorcycle racing model, which subsequently became the progenitor of the 1190RS, designed to be used both on and off the track, on city streets.
